Edward B. Flink is a founding member of Flink Maswick Law PLLC and has practiced law for over 43 years.
Throughout his career, Ed has represented individuals and entities in personal injury, commercial, employment, insurance and corporate matters. Ed has successfully resolved thousands of cases for his clients, taking approximately two hundred verdicts in both state and federal court. By virtue of his success in obtaining settlements and, when necessary, verdicts for accident victims, Ed is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates. He is also recognized as a Super Lawyer in Insurance Coverage and Personal Injury Litigation, as both defense and plaintiffs’ counsel, having been heavily involved with Insurance Coverage matters throughout his distinguished career.
By virtue of his experience, Ed has become widely recognized as a “go to” person where complex issues are involved. He is universally regarded as an attorney one can consult when thorough analysis and insight is required to evaluate the clients’ position and options for resolution. Leveraging years of experience, and his reputation as a tough but fair and thoughtful litigator, Ed is able to solve problems and develop opportunities in the most difficult and complex disputes, many times negotiating agreements that satisfy the needs of everyone involved. His reputation and approach frequently allow him to help his clients resolve their civil and criminal matters discreetly, outside the courtroom.
Ed was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1978. He has long history of service to the community and the bar, serving as an officer and member of board of directors for various local community organizations and charities, as well as various local bar associations and in particular NYSBA.
Flink received his J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University in 1977 where he was a member and served as Notes Editor of the Albany Law Review. He received his B.A. with a major in English from St. Lawrence University in 1973.
Ed began his legal career as an associate in the litigation department of Binghamton law firm of Hinman, Howard & Kattell, where he was fortunate to be trained by some wonderful mentors who allowed him to try over a dozen cases in the Southern Tier. Ed moved back to the Capital District in 1983 to open his own firm with Tim Kelleher, a friend and classmate from Albany Law School. After a brief one-year stint as the Saperston & Day Albany office with Tim, Ed and Tim were partners for 11 years at Kelleher & Flink. It was there that Ed continued to hone his skills as a litigator trying dozens of personal injury and commercial cases for both plaintiffs and defendants. In 1995, he continued that practice as Edward Flink & Associates. In 2000, Ed formed Flink, Smith & Associates, LLC with Jay Smith who came to work with Ed at Edward Flink & Associates. As that firm continued to grow it became Flink Smith Law LLC, opening a Lake Placid office in 2004. By the time Flink Smith Law ceased operations in May 2017, Ed had tried well over 200 jury trials, taking as many as 10 verdicts in a few of those years. For about 18 months during 2017-2018, Ed Flink and Jamey Maswick practiced in the Capital District and Lake Placid with Hurwitz & Fine, a Buffalo based law firm which approached Ed seeking to have him help build its presence in Albany. Finally, in 2019, Ed was pleased to form a new partnership Flink Maswick Law PLLC with James Maswick. Ed and Jamey have been colleagues since 2007 at these different firms all the while continuing to serve and build on the client base that Ed built by his reputation and referrals, Jamey likewise quickly developing his own client base by reputation and referrals through the same commitment to clients that has been the benchmark of Ed’s success.
Flink presently divides his time between the firm’s Capital District and Lake Placid offices, handling cases throughout New York State. He remains engaged in the firm’s management, helping steer the firm in its consistent growth. When not working, Ed enjoys golf, running, yoga, travel and reading and spending time with his wife of over 46 years, Ellen, and their three children, Aaron, Rachel and Rebecca, and their growing families.
